Oak Grove Cemetery Cleanup Project
The Oak Grove Cemetery Restoration Project is a restoration/preservation project of a cemetery that dates to the 1840s.
This project is of the Oak Grove Cemetery located in Aboite Township, Allen County, Indiana, 3801 Sleepy Hollow Lane. Fort Wayne, IN. The cemetery is approximately 2.216 acres in size. IN DNR Latitude 41.0486 Longitude 85.2325. First burial was in 1841 there are 27 veteran's graves along with 303 stones.
Oak Grove Cemetery has suffered neglect and weather-related damage for approximately the last 20 years. It is grown over by trees, bushes, weeds, and poison ivy. The headstones have sunken, and some are leaning, broken, and/or grown over by grass and debris.
Cemeteries hold the final pieces of our ancestor’s lives, and this area was settled by pioneers and several farmers that moved to Indiana from eastern states. It is important to remember and honor our ancestors.
